The San Francisco Google office is pretty cool. Right at the seaside, with the Bay Bridge just outside. And when there's a fire drill, we get ice cream. Not shown is the open area, which has nice wooden cubicle dividers instead of the usual flimsy things. Looks very classy. The building itself is a pretty red-brick six-story building with open space in the middle. Much more pleasant than the Mountain View standard offices.

Recommended hotel in San Francisco: Hotel Triton is a very nice and somewhat quirky hotel right outside Chinatown. It features previously banned books on the night stand instead of a bible, bed lights mounted with pipes, text on the wall and a goodie basket that includes aspirin and condoms. Me gusta!

A nice run-down of the latest American craziness. At least it looks like a loss on nearly all fronts for the Republicans. Well deserved.

A nice run-down of the latest American craziness. At least it looks like a loss on nearly all fronts for the Republicans. Well deserved. Via Jeff Dean  Originally shared by Jeremy Nixon So, what was it all for? Nothing. Two weeks of government shutdown, the country brought to the brink of disaster, an estimated $24 billion wasted, for nothing. ”If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.” —Jim DeMint, in 2009 It was supposed to be about Obamacare. Republicans, at long last, would give President Obama his Waterloo. The plan was months in the making: threaten to destroy the country unless the president’s signature health care plan is defunded. Timing can be a real bastard, though. Government funding expired the same day the Affordable Care Act exchange opened for business – and funding for the ACA is already in place, so it went forward despite the shutdown. First point on the board: Republicans hate Obamacare so much, they shut down everything exce...
