We will do medieval battles using foam-covered weapons next Sunday in Englischer Garten south-west of the lake (see http://goo.gl/maps/5ael9). All are welcome, beginners and on-lookers too. Instruction in both English and German is available.

We will do medieval battles using foam-covered weapons next Sunday in Englischer Garten south-west of the lake (see http://goo.gl/maps/5ael9 ). All are welcome, beginners and on-lookers too. Instruction in both English and German is available. Bring water and loose-fitting clothes that can stand getting sweaty and dirty. Boots with ankle support , knee protection or leather gloves are recommended. We will postpone in case of heavy rain or very slippery ground. Belegarth is full-speed, full-contact, free-form medieval combat using heavily padded swords, shields, flails, etc. The rules are simple, the weapons are safe, and the experience is the closest you'll get to being on in an actual battlefield of the Dark Ages. Anyone can join, no experience nor armor needed. We have a large number of medieval weapons available, from swords over axes and flails to bow and arrow. Any number of people can join, the more the merrier. More details at http://www.monachium.org . events/coq3acpp7i...

Best. Net. Neutrality. Argument. Ever.

Best. Net. Neutrality. Argument. Ever. I also really like the part about how the ISPs shouldn't be getting rights to public areas and still get to operate like they're a fully private company: 'Wheeler could say to the ISPs: "If you want to run your networks as private enterprises, then you can build them privately. You've got 60 days to get your copper out of our dirt, or we'll pay you scrappage rates and turn it over to a company that will give people the bits they want, not the bits that pay you the most." Instead, he stands ready to oversee the merger of Comcast and Time-Warner, ensuring that there is virtually no competition in the telcoms sector, while simultaneously handing these massive businesses a blank cheque in the form of permission to extract ransom from everyone you want to talk to on the internet.' Services as gifts

Services as gifts When Mickey Blake asked me last year what I wanted for my birthday, I was stumped for a while. Most of the things I want I can readily buy, unless it's something so expensive that it wouldn't be appropriate for a birthday present anyway. I have closets and drawers full of clothing that I only use half of. I haven't read the majority of books we have.  I thought it over for a while, and finally realised that what I would very most love to get was not a thing at all. Mickey is really good at organising, and I have a garage workshop that's a horrid mess. Would she be willing to spend the time to get it nice and systematic? Yes, she would (come summer)! The more I think about this, the more I like the idea of "services as gifts". Are you particularly good at something? Offer your friends and family gifts in the form of doing that thing for them. Good color sense? Help them pick paints. Big and strong? Help them move or build something. Computer g...

My favorite sport, fast, fun, and free-style medieval combat. A new season of battle gaming has started, and this year we want to grow our Munich Belegarth group as much as possible.

Spring be coming early this year. Trees flowering, ok, but strawberry plants? In March? Unheard of.
