The 70ies are back! Well, at least for one evening. There was a 70ies disco party at Mickey Blake's work, and we dressed up appropriately. I had to rent my shirt, bling and pants, but the purple velour jacket is mine, and Mickey Blake made her dress herself in the last couple weeks. Isn't it just awesomely 70ies tacky?

We will fight next Sunday in Englischer Garten on the lawn a bit south-west of the lake (see http://goo.gl/maps/5ael9). All are welcome, beginners and on-lookers too.

Bring water and loose-fitting clothes that can stand getting sweaty and dirty. Boots with ankle support, knee protection or leather gloves are also good. We will postpone in case of heavy rain or very slippery ground. Belegarth is full-speed, full-contact, free-form medieval combat using heavily padded swords, shields, flails, etc. The rules are simple, the weapons are safe, and the experience is the closest you'll get to being on in an actual battlefield of the Dark Ages. Anyone can join, no experience nor armor needed. We have a large number of medieval weapons available, from swords over axes and flails to bow and arrow. Any number of people can join, the more the merrier. events/c84n8pkml5bjcm5k9a4nk26k490
There's always little pieces to hack off and bits to adjust, but I have endstop control working now.

I am a beautiful person who is the new Batman movie is a good time to get ready for the first time in the House of the season today.

I am a beautiful person who is the new Batman movie is a good time to get ready for the first time in the House of the season today. This is what #swiftkey thinks I should be saying today ( http://xkcd.com/1068/ ). It's autopredictions are much more entertaining than the regular Android keyboard's. And it is eerily precise in day-to-day predictions.

I will go label mine forthwith.

Language weirdness examined, compared and cataloged. German is slightly weirder than Norwegian, Danish (probably) in between. English is relatively simple, and Hindi is as normal as they come. Too bad its counting system is a bizarre mess.

Language weirdness examined, compared and cataloged. German is slightly weirder than Norwegian, Danish (probably) in between. English is relatively simple, and Hindi is as normal as they come.  Too bad its counting system is a bizarre mess. Notice that weirdness != difficulty. Weirdness is how many features are different from the norm, but it may be different in a simpler way. http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=5821

This article is interesting for understanding the difference between causation and correlation. If you don't understand that difference, you would thing that acaia trees cause traffic accidents. Or siestas cause morpholgical complexity. Or that there are genes for linguistic tone.

Detailed description of why this mobile app designer switched from iPhone to Android. Not for hating anything about the iPhone, but because Android was better on just about all counts.

Watch out for Vietnamese kids. They're going to eat our collective programmer's lunch. They learn CS from 2nd grade, and at grade 11, they can solve Google interview level questions. Hats off!

A success in a teacup, and a failure of slicing.

A storm came in and rolled around a bit, giving some really nice lightning strikes. Hopefully cooler air will also follow.

A storm came in and rolled around a bit, giving some really nice lightning strikes. Hopefully cooler air will also follow. This is my first time taking lightning shots with Magic Lantern. It felt almost like cheating that I could lean back and eat cake while my camera just snapped away at the appropriate times.
