Just as an afterthought:
ReplyDeleteIn repeated cases of escaped spring steel end, you can hear them up over e.g. a candle, turn the end into a tight loop with pliers, and then quite easily sew them into place.
I did this with garden trash bags where their spring coils has penetrated their respective plastic end caps, the surrounding cloth, and occasionally my skin.
