My experience with Fritzing: I like it.
Todays work on The Monster was mostly in software, though I did some rewiring due to the broken motherboard and measured various things needed. The printable volume is measured to 14x8x5.5 cm, while the bounding box for the machine is 50x60x65 cm - a volume usage of a whopping 0.3%!

I heard about this revision of the Danish equivalent of the FOIA earlier: They are closing off access to the workings of the ministries "so that the officials can work without their ideas being subject to public opinion". In other words: They want to be able to make shady back-room deals without the pesky public interfering. The public that at several referendums have disagreed thoroughly with the politicians.

Now you can help save transparency in the Danish government by signing this petition -- or, if you Danish/in Denmark, by contacting your representative. http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Save_Denmarks_Democracy/?bKKjkbb&v=25137

Following up on my recent post about cold fusion, an interesting paper from NASA posits an explanation, namely slow-moving neutrons being absorbed into the nucleus, causing instability, decay, and energy release.

Following up on my recent post about cold fusion, an interesting paper from NASA posits an explanation, namely slow-moving neutrons being absorbed into the nucleus, causing instability, decay, and energy release. Favorite quotes: "According to Zawodny, nuclei presented with sluggish neutrons slurp them up like a hungry Texan with a bowl of firehouse chili. But like many a chili consumer, the nuclei can find that their indulgence makes them, shall we say, unstable. And while I am too polite to continue the chili metaphor past this point, the nuclei do find that emissions relieve their distress." ... "Those neutrons, as we noted, are immediately captured by nuclei of the metal atoms, setting in motion a chain of events which turns the nickel into copper and releases useful energy." So it's the Philosopher's Stone, essentially.  http://climate.nasa.gov/news/864

For programmers of all stripes out there (and possibly some non-programmers who have been exposed to programmers), some programming history.

For programmers of all stripes out there (and possibly some non-programmers who have been exposed to programmers), some programming history. I particularly like the C++ bit: "1983 - Bjarne Stroustrup bolts everything he's ever heard of onto C to create C++. The resulting language is so complex that programs must be sent to the future to be compiled by the Skynet artificial intelligence. Build times suffer. Skynet's motives for performing the service remain unclear but spokespeople from the future say "there is nothing to be concerned about, baby," in an Austrian accented monotones. There is some speculation that Skynet is nothing more than a pretentious buffer overrun."

Ok, physics-knowledgeable people out there: Who wants to poke holes in this article about a device with extra-ordinary heat generation? It reads funny to me, but I can't pinpoint any actual errors or omissions.

Can-can and the periodic table. Two great things that go great together! I particularly like how they've illustrated the uses of the elements.

A nice rant courtesy of Mz Maau (which otherwise disappears in re-sharing): ZOMG! It's a nipple! The world will end unless this nipple is...oh wait. It's a man's nipple? Carry on, then!  Pbtbtbtb. PS: Nothing against +John Ward's post, it just happened to be handy. My commentary is specifically in regard to how often female nipples get censored, but male nipples don't.  Also, 'nipples' is starting to sound and look strange after typing 'nipples' so often.  #Nipples!!! PPS: Yes, I'm sure that these happen to be a mighty fine specimen of nipple, but I don't care to hear it. I could just read the OP for that.  PPPS: If you have opinions on the show, please hit up the original post and help John out. Thanks! Once again, we will fight this Sunday in Englischer Garten on the lawn a bit south-west of the lake (see http://goo.gl/maps/5ael9). All are welcome, beginners and on-lookers too.

Bring water and loose-fitting clothes that can stand getting sweaty and dirty. Boots with ankle support, knee protection or leather gloves are also good. We will postpone in case of heavy rain or very slippery ground. Belegarth is full-speed, full-contact, free-form medieval combat using heavily padded swords, shields, flails, etc. The rules are simple, the weapons are safe, and the experience is the closest you'll get to being on in an actual battlefield of the Dark Ages. Anyone can join, no experience nor armor needed. We have about 20 swords, 2 shields, a flail, and bow and arrow available, but any number of people can join, the more the merrier. events/ckkiukmt7pc2a18v7bjgijarers

This is quite an achievement: RAW files at 30FPS![1] If I was a video maker, I would be jumping up and down for joy.

Mickey Blake and I fiddled with word triangles (and how to generate them automatically) them. We tried getting one with both velociraptor and replicator, but it doesn't appear to be possible to make one with velociraptor (at least not with single words). For replicator, we got:

Why use the ugly American word "basketball" when you could use the beautiful German "Korbkugel"?

Why use the ugly American word "basketball" when you could use the beautiful German "Korbkugel"? This is a takeoff on an old Danish saying decrying the use of the ugly German word "farve" in favour of the good Danish word "kulør". Conveniently forgetting the French root of the latter. Many, many language purist are guilty of such mistakes. #kitchenlinguistics
Some thoughts on how to buy (camera) equipment.
It's so nice to live in a place where the whole "don't talk to strangers" scare seems to not have happened. I was riding with The Frida Diaries on the tram when a girl of 8-10 years - riding alone - sat down across from me and asked if she could pet Frida. Since Frida is quite kid-friendly, I let her, and we talked about Frida and her grandparent's dogs until she got off. Nary a trace of nervousness, and that's what I see in other kids, too. It rocks.

Only now realized than when viewing a photo in G+, you can zoom in by pinching/middle-wheeling just like in Google Maps. Nice!
